A MARK ON FATHERHOOD

When interviewed by Laurie Segall on CNNMoney about the Cambridge Analytica incident, Laurie threw this question at Mark Zuckerberg:

Laurie: “How’s being a father change your commitment to users, changed your commitment to their future and what a kinder Facebook looks like?”

Mark: Will, I think having kids changes a lot.

Laurie: Like what?

Mark: Will you know I use to think that the most important thing to me by far was am i having the greatest positive impact across the world that I can now, I real just care about building something that my girls are going to grow up and be proud of me for…that’s what is kind of my guiding philosophy at this point is…”~CNN Money/Laurie Segall

To Mark's point, if being a father (or a mother) hasn’t changed you for the better; if it hasn’t made you more cautious in your actions, caused you to rethink and reconsider your flawed and destructive ideologies. If your awareness and compassion towards all humanity and concern for its future have not been heightened, because of their arrival; and if it hasn’t caused you to change that which you know is wrong about you. If it hasn’t made you prioritize what is most important in life, then you might as well look your children in their faces and let them know of the bleak and messed up future that awaits them. All because you were only thinking about yourself.

Being a parent is not easy, not because of the obvious challenges of raising children but the purging process it takes us through as a person; that's if we’re not resistant to it.
