PRIMUM NON NOCERE OATH OF FATHER AND SOCIETY (MY TAKE ON THE EMORY HOSPITAL STORY)

This story was brought to my attention by one of the first followers of my site FATHERHOOD. His own personal story of one who’s served and fought for this country and as one who served and fought this system for his right to be a father is awe inspiring . Our connection with each other has formed an unbreakable relationship so much so that we refer to each other as brothers; even though we’ve never met in person. Thanks to Retired Naval Officer Jack Stanley, my brother. Enough of the mushy stuff lets get to this story and my thoughts on it:

Primum non nocere (Do no harm). The “do no harm” a guiding principle for physicians meaning whatever the intervention or procedure, the patient's well-be is the primary consideration. With that being said, for any doctor, hospital, or any other healthcare provider life and the care for it should take precedence over all. Emory Hospital, its doctors, sergeants, the board of trustees and the institution itself has failed miserably in their dedication to this oat, to humanity, and most of all to this toddler's well-being and this father's (regardless of what his personal situation may be) ability to help his son live. This doesn’t justify this father bad behavior or the poor choices he’s made in life but this hospitals action is just as reprehensible….no even more reprehensible than this father’s crimes. This speaks to the condition of our society, but in the end, Emory Hospital and the lifestyle of this father both in their own way has placed this child’s life in serious jeopardy. When a society puts anything above its children and above the sacrifices, a parent makes for their children it will find itself slowly but surely fall into deprivation the like of which no man or woman has ever seen or experienced. Primum non nocere.
