LOCKED UP THEY WON’T LET ME OUT
"Can you be a positive influence in the life of your children while behind prison walls? Can you still pursue fatherhood while looking through the bars of a cell? Can you reach out and touch the hearts, minds, and souls of your offspring while incarcerated. My answer is yes you can! You can take away a father’s physical freedom, but he can still be free to pursue father while incarcerated. Being a father can never be taken away from you unless you give it away, and how unfortunate would that be. The role of fatherhood is not out of reach for incarcerated fathers, matter of fact it is just as attainable as it is for fathers who are free. You just have different obstacles, but fatherhood is none the less achievable. And at least, your child knows where to find you (A joke). You may be locked up, but your influence as a father is free to roam to wherever your children are. You may be behind bars, in chains, surrounded by insurmountable walls, but even from the bars, walls, and chains of incarceration, you can touch the lives of your children. As diligently as one seeks an appeal, incarcerated fathers must pursue fatherhood with that same diligence, as though his life depends on it – because his children’s lives depend on it."
"When incarcerated fathers began to engulf themselves into the things that will make them better fathers, they will find real rehabilitation. Being an involved father is more difficult from where you stand. It will require some extraordinary creativity on your part. But it can be done; it will be worth every effort especially when you consider what could become of your children if you don't pursue fatherhood, compared to what can become of them if you do. If people can obtain degrees, high school diplomas, write books, make money, even win the Nobel Peace Prize while incarcerated; surely they can be a father to their children from the walls of confinement."
"Successful incarcerated father are those who make sure that the only reason their children will ever step foot in a prison is when they come to visit them."
